American Electric Power is making a huge commitment to helping companies reduce their energy usage. Through its new program, AEP has authorized firms to provide retrocommissioning services for its Ohio commercial customers. Customers who participate in the program can get reimbursed for retrocommissioning services up to $600,000 per business entity, per calendar year.

Through the retrocommissioning initiative, a firm investigates an existing building's operation and identifies improvements through a four-step process, including screening, study, implementation and verification.

"This is an exciting program that is sure to lead to significant energy savings for AEP clients and will help in the effort to reduce energy consumed in the state of Ohio," says Gary Robinson, Facilities Performance Engineer at Four Seasons Environmental, Inc., which has been authorized by AEP as part of its retrocommissioning program.

After the initial screening and study phases, the authorized firm will identify and quantify potential operational improvements and specific retrocommissioning measures, along with projected energy savings and payback period. The company will have 60 days to implement all retrocommissioning measures with a payback period of two years or less. The verification process then will take up to six weeks.

"AEP is really getting behind this program," says Gary. "They even supplied a computer loaded with their software to help in the initial assessment phase."
